Hail & Ride

Hail & Ride allows passengers to board or leave the bus away from a designated bus stop on certain registered rural sections of our routes.

Where recognised bus stops are available, please continue to use them.

How to catch the bus

If you are travelling within a designated Hail & Ride section and there is no recognised bus stop nearby, find a safe and clearly visible place to wait.

Please stay well away from junctions, bends, pedestrian crossings, parked vehicles and other obstructions.

As the bus approaches, give the driver a clear signal that you would like them to stop. If travelling in the dark, consider using your mobile phone screen or a torch to make yourself more visible, but never shine a light directly at the driver.

The driver will stop only where they consider it safe and legal to do so. Please remember that a bus cannot always stop safely in the same places as a car.

Getting off the bus

When travelling through a designated Hail & Ride section, ring the bell in plenty of time and, where possible, tell the driver where you would like to get off.

The driver will stop as close as they safely can. This may be slightly before or after your preferred location.

Hail & Ride is available on the following registered rural sections of the B617:

On the B1192 between Horncastle and Woodhall Spa, between the villages.
On the A153 between Tattershall Market Place and the turn-off for Billinghay.
On the B1189 between the villages, towards Metheringham.

Please remember

A request to stop does not guarantee that the bus can stop at that exact location. Drivers must consider traffic, visibility, road restrictions, the size of the vehicle and the safety of passengers and other road users.

The driver’s decision on where it is safe to stop is final.
